a dogs life

I saw this on facebook this morning, and don't know its source, but I thought it was too sweet not to share with you! If you know the source, feel free to let me know, so I can give proper credit!

WHY DOGS LIVE LESS THAN HUMAN ?

ANSWER OF A 6 YEAR OLD

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker ‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ”I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,”People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued,

”Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you’re not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Sunday Social!

Since I have not blogged in weeks, I thought I'd post a little Sunday Social, to try to get me back into the swing of things!

This Weeks Questions:

1. Biggest Middle school fashion mistake:
Oh gosh! I had these paisley stirrup pants in crazy colors, and I wore them with this giant oversized button-down shirt. Both were from Limited Too (remember that store!? does it still exist?) and I thought they were the coolest ever. Pretty sure they weren't.  I also cut bangs in 8th grade, and that was just a bad idea.

2. Who were your best friends in high school?
Renee, Susan, Claudia and Stephanie.

3. What was a typical weekend like for you in high school?
Let's see...I baby-sat a lot, and had a job at the local health club. I also volunteered at a local thrift shop with Renee. I went to football and hockey games sometimes, that sort of things, hung out with friends. The usual.

4. Did you have any boyfriends/girlfriends? Tell us about that.
Not really, no. I really didn't date in high school.

5. Did you have any secret codes with your friends? Spill your secrets!
In middle school, my friend Erika and I made up a few words, haha. In high school, nothing really. We passed notes in classes, and between classes, and had silly jokes, but nothing that sticks out to me now, all these years later  ;)

I don't want to post any photos, as I don't want to post without friends permission, and most of them don't know about my blog!

hey! that's pintastic! confetti dotted wine glasses!

Several weeks ago, my friend Elizabeth came over one Saturday afternoon for a craft project. I saw this on pinterest, pinned it, and sent her the link immediately, declaring that we must do it that very weekend. Quite possibly my fastest pin made ever  ;)

These are confetti dotted wine glasses!  Pinned from here, original link here.

That Saturday morning, we met at a DC mall that has a Bed, Bath and Beyond. We found a coupon for the stemless wine glasses, and with that, two boxes of four each were $10! Wooo! Elizabeth had bought the paint the weekend prior, from Michaels. We used Q-tips to do the dotting, and did little color themes for each, and they were so much fun to make!

We took a break for snacks. Snacks make everything better. I've been really into olive plates lately....so, green olives, black olives, mozzarella and mini gherkins! Oh, and cheese and smoked sausage, of course.

The finished product!

We forgot to buy the spray to coat them, but I bought some the next day.

As you may notice, some of the dots are a bit smeared, but that just adds character, right?

These were so much fun to make, and now I can say that I made them myself if someone is over and asks me where I got my wine glasses  :)

Also, I'm linking up with AP's Hey! That's Pintastic today, so go have a look at some of the other fun things people are creating today!

i love you more than carrots

Any crafts for you lately?

I'm a Julep Maven!

Have you heard about Julep yet? It's a monthly service along the lines of Birchbox, but it is all nail polish! Upon joining, you take a quiz to determine which type of maven you are, and then each month, you get a box of nail polishes perfect for you!

After taking the quiz, it was determined that I am Classic with a Twist, which describes me pretty well, I'd say. My intro box was wrapped so nicely!

Two colors, a cuticle cream, and some fun little pots of nail sparkle, for fun nights out!

Then my January box arrived, and I received three more colors (on the right), a spectacular hand and cuticle stick, and some fun hair bands.

On the left are two other polishes, I bought them to send to my sister.

I haven't mailed them yet...hope she isn't reading this right now  ;)

This color is called Jodie.

They're all girls names...I'm just waiting for them to have one called Lexi  ;)

I love this hand creme, it is just fabulous. It has a wonderful light scent, and is not thick and sticky, like some hand cremes can be. I keep it next to my bed, as part of my nightly routine!

If you're a nail polish fan, I suggest you consider joining Julep and becoming a maven! I just got an email saying that my February box has shipped, so I can't wait to see what they have in store for me this month! They do all sorts of specials, sales and such. Another friend who has been a maven for several months mentioned that sometimes they have little packages where you can buy a necklace and a polish together, something like that! So, so fun.

So, join! You'll love it!

Are you a fan of painting your nails?
