he's not your sexy

Want to know a secret? I'm not a fan of pet names. By that, I mean that I don't call people honey, sweetie, etc and to be honest, I am not a fan of being called them by others, with a few exceptions. Occasionally my grandmother will use one, but not too often. Most of my friends don't either (maybe it's a northern thing?). Sometimes Steve does, but we tend to use more silly things. Lately, he's been calling me pupcake (ie, puppy and cupcake), haha.

He has female friends who use them, and use them a lot. To him. I hate this, it drives me crazy and irritates the crap out of me. He says it's meaningless and harmless, and I know this, but still, I hate it. He's not your hun or sweetie or your anything. He's mine. His birthday was over the weekend and his facebook wall is filled with "happy birthday sweetie!" and "wish you were here to celebrate with us, sexy."

Don't call my boyfriend sexy! He's not your sexy!

Again, I know they don't mean anything by this, but I still hate it. He doesn't use words like that for others, so I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does and I don't know how to make it stop!

Do you use expressions like this? If not, what do you think of them? Am I being ridiculous by letting myself be annoyed by this?

Well I'm from the south, deep south, so everyone here calls you those pet names and says, "Bless your heart," etc. So I'm used to it I guess. I find it annoying when used excessively in the work place though since it is a place of business. But it would irritate me if other women wrote stuff like that on my husband's facebook page.

My pet peeve is when I hear grown adults calling each other "mommy" and "daddy", like a wife calling her husband "daddy". Umm, he's not your daddy and that's just wrong! (just my opinion though).

Why don't you just go on Steve's FB page and write something like this:

"Thanks everyone for your birthday wishes for Steve. Sweetie and I had a great time. We had a wonderful meal and then had a sexy time all alone, just the two of us. He sends his best along with reminders that he is happily involved with his sexy, sweet girlfriend Lexi." :-)

this northerner agrees! i hate when people call me names like that, unless they are my grandparents or parents. and even then, only in moderation.

I would probably drive you nuts. I call LJ Baby all the time. To the point his brother had to remind me that he has a real name.

I say "Bless their heart a lot too." I'm from the beach but from time to time I sound valley. "Totally!"

P.S. It's not okay to call someone elses man Sexy. That would drive me up the wall too.

i never thought of it that way but maybe it IS a northern thing. i don't use those terms in my casual conversations with anyone... i'll throw in a "sweetie" sometimes but it's usualy used in a condescending tone toward some bitch.

that being said i do call M "hun" or "honey" and he uses "darlin'" but that's usually just between the two of us... we're not all schmoopy in public like that.
(and ps. i LOVE every time he says "darlin'" to me... it makes my heart smile)

How annoying! I don't use pet names often, sometimes but only to people I'm dating seriously.

I would be annoyed too about the FB comments.

Oh... I have a friend who calls me honey or hon when she is lecturing me. It annoys the crap out of me... the pet names and lecturing.

I would never call someone of the opposite sex that. But then, I'm also uncomfortable calling any female peers "sweetie" or something like that. Okay, frankly, I am no good with pet names. They kind of freak me out.

The grad school coordinator would always respond to my emails saying something like "Hi Sweetie." Which, hi. Unprofessional.

I would definitely be annoyed if someone else called my boyfriend sweetie or sexy. I don't think its a huge deal, but I could see it be pretty awkward

I'm not crazy about pet names either! I don't really mind them that much, but I don't use them much at all.
