baby time!

I found out a few weeks ago that a close college friend and her husband are expecting a baby in September! They live in CT, so I haven't seen them in ages, which makes me sad, but I couldn't be more excited for them. They've been married almost five years now and are college sweethearts. Sadly, I couldn't go to their wedding, as it was the day before the election when I was in Canada. She and I studied in Luxembourg together and had many adventures there, including walking to both Germany and France (remind me to tell that story sometime!).

She emailed me this morning to say that they found out that it will be a BOY!

So, I need to start practicing making potholders now, so that I can make her a baby quilt in August!

When you have babies, do you want to find out if it's a boy or girl beforehand? Or do you want it to be a surprise? I want to be surprised and I already have decided that my nursery will be decorated with Peter Rabbit, since he's my favorite!

i go back and forth with this decision. as much fun as it is to be surprised during labor, i think my planner part needs to know in advance. afterall it's a surprise until you find out anyway, whether that's at 4 months or 9 months. so for me, i believe we'll find out and then be able to plan accordingly. for those in my family (like my sister and mother) who love the surprise at birth i'll just hold off on telling them until then.
it's hard enough to pick out a name for a child i can't imagine having to pick out 2 because you don't know. and let's be honest, it's not too much of a surprise, it's a 50% chance either way and it's not like anyone ever hears "congratulations! it's a llama!"

Like Jenny, the planner in me would take over. I would HAVE to know, haha.

I think it's amazing you're going to make a quilt. PLEASE share progress pictures.

Also, we must see each other soon. I have been missing in action for quite some time, I know.

I've decided a while back that I want the suprise. When my boss had her two kids - she didn't know the gender of either so it was fun to get the "It's a boy!" & "It's a girl!" phone call. People want to plan every last thing in life and this is the one thing that I'd love to be a suprise.

And really, does it matter if your baby girl has pink and purple clothes to start off life with? Nope!

Some things I'm just really old fashioned with and this is one of those things :)

I definitely want to find out beforehand. Then you get to decorate the room, pick out the clothes, choose a name. Ahh!

I always wanted to know in advance. People would say that it's so much better to be surprised - but then I would counter that I was STILL surprised (it's not like I got to choose). I think it comes down to personality. Some people love waiting for surprises (which you have to do anyway - it's just a matter of 20 weeks or 40 weeks) and others don't.

Ohhhh, congrats! And I don't know if I'll procreate... but if I do, I definitely want to know. I'm a planner.

And I grew up with EVERYTHING Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter... my "teddy bear" was a Peter Rabbit with a music box, and he may and may not be tucked in a storage box under my bed even as I type. (I need him close... just not close enough for B to see.) :-)

Well, I don't know if I even WANT kids, but if I do...I'd want to know. As soon as I could. Because I hate surprises, and chances are getting pregnant would be enough of one for me already.

I really, really want to be surprised, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to hold out! I'm going to try my best though. :)

I love the Peter Rabbit theme! I think I'd want to find out, but if I decided against that I'd love to do the nursery in a classic Winnie the Pooh theme.
