oh Canada!

This weekend, we are heading to upstate New York for a wedding. The wedding is on one of the Finger Lakes, which will be so nice. My mother's best friend lives nearby, and we used to go up there every summer for a week or so. She has a barn full of horses and a house full of corgis, so I spent my days riding, mucking stalls and chasing corgis around the farm. I haven't been there in years, due to life getting in the way of everything fun.

We are driving up Thursday and are actually going to head to Niagara Falls first! Steve's never been there, though his parents honeymooned there years ago! I've been once, in 2004, when I was in London during the Federal Elections where I ran the campaign there. I had really wanted to go, but didn't think there was time to do so, since we were so busy with the campaign. I had to fly home in the middle of it for my brother's high school graduation, and on the way back from Toronto (it was cheaper to fly there than to London!), my friend stopped at the Falls for a few hours, since he knew how much I wanted to see them. They had just opened a new casino, so he played Texas Hold'em and I lost $3 (Canadian!) on a slot machine. Needless to say, I've only seen the Falls from the Canadian side. I think we'll go to both sides, I hope. I want a Canada stamp in my passport :) I never got one last time, because you didn't need a passport at the time, and even though I showed them mine, they didn't stamp it.

We also plan to check out a few wineries in the area, since there are so many. Have you been to any? Any good suggestions for places we should check out? I think we will do the wineries Sunday, and drive home Monday...

I've never been so don't have any suggestions ... but how fun! And I hope they do stamp your passport. I'll be going to Canada next month for the first time since (yikes) the 90s, when crossing the border required only a nice smile. Oh, the good old days. Hopefully we'll both have happy canada stamps to show off before long : )

Omg, I went to college in upstate NY right near where you'll be. The wineries in the Niagra area are fantastic, known for their ice wines, specifially Inniskillin winery. Jackson-Triggs is also great, as is Peller, Hillebrand, Sunnybrook Farms and Château des Charmes. Great source: http://wineriesofniagaraonthelake.com/

Finger Lakes are so beautiful! If you stop in Ithaca eat at Moosewoods Restaurant organic, DELICIOUS food with the best brownies for dessert I've ever had!
