here comes the cold!

So while much of the country is being walloped with snow, here in DC, we got rain. Booooo. I want snow! My mother had her first snow day of the season. Jealous. Why am I not a teacher again?

Question for you wise ladies.

What sort of lotion do you use, especially in the winter? At this time of year, my hands get so dry, mostly around my knuckles, and they get red and chapped, and they hurt! I'm not sure how, because I use lotion, wear gloves outside, etc, but they still do. Can you suggest a great lotion that stays on, isn't greasy and doesn't rub off after being washed? What is your favorite?

In other news, Steve and I put up our Christmas tree this weekend and it is adorable. I hung the advent calendar my mother made me on our wine rack. Awesome. It pays to be a wino! I also hosted a holiday cookie swap on Sunday that was lovely. I didn't seem to take pictures, which is unusual, but oh well. Next year!

Have you begun your Christmas shopping? I have done a small amount, but not too much. I'm still considering what to get Steve. I have a few ideas, but nothing concrete, other than a book I picked up about two months ago on a whim.

I've been doing a lot of quilting the last few days, working on some nine-patch blocks. When I am home at Christmas, I am bringing a lot with me, I am needing some help from my mother!

What are you up to this week?

Totally had a blast at the cookie swap, by the way.

Also, I swear by Burt's Bees honey and milk body lotion.

i think lotion is just like anything else and some work better for certain bodies than others. i personally swear by body butter (the body shop in olive to be specific). i put it on every day and just applying it to my legs and arms is enough to keep my hands completely moisturized through the day. i keep a small lotion in my purse (nivea i think) but i never have to use it, even in the winter.

i'm bummed i missed the cookie swap but glad to hear it went beautifully!

I have dry hands too. It gets especially bad in the winter. I LOVE L'Occitane Hand Cream with Shea Butter. It's $26 for a tube but SO worth it. Here's the link...

I use a body butter from The Body Shop most of the time. I keep a small one in my purse & have one at my desk for the office.

At the office I use Boots brazil nut & vanilla body butter (Target sells it). At home I keep a lotion in the bathroom for use after handwashing.

I always put lotion on after I wash my hands & use a little extra around my nails.

At night before I go to bed I'll smear a little vaseline around my cuticles to help keep them soft.

Holy long comment!!

Oh! And sometimes when I'm cooking & get a little olive oil on my fingers I'll spread that out around my nails & cuticles rather than washing it off.

I need to know about lotion too...I'm itching my legs so much that they've been bleeding! So sad!

My favorite hand lotion is Crabtree and Evelyn "La Source" hand therapy.

It really penetrates into your skin and leaves your hands soft, not greasy.
