hello 30's!

Just like that, I am thirty years and one day old. Oy vey, oy vey indeed. Celebrations were had and they were all sorts of loveliness. Now, thank you notes must be written and mailed this week (confession- I may have just mailed my Christmas thank you notes last Friday...but the point is, I mailed them!).

On Saturday, I met with a group of local quilters about beginning a DC Quilting Guild, and I am really excited about it! There were about a dozen girls there, all roughly my age (give or take a few years) and we had a lot of things to talk about, a lot of things we want to do. I think this will be a good thing.

This week I am going to an info session about a mentoring program I learned about. I may volunteer with that, we will see. I think I still need to sign up, oops. This weekend is Steve's company's holiday dinner (a month later!) and then I am going to a bridal show with one of my favorite girls.

Do you go to a gym? Which one do you use? Do you like it? I am considering joining a gym. I say considering, because I often have brilliant ideas of things I want to do, and this is just one of them (ha!), though it would be a good thing. Truthfully though, I hate going to the gym. In high school, I worked at one and got a free membership which I almost never used. So, the idea of paying for something that I already know I don't like doesn't thrill me. Who knows though, maybe if I found the right thing, I'd like it.

I like the idea of a juice bar at my gym :)

I love my gym. It's the K Street WSC. The membership is *really* inexpensive --especially considering the other WSC dues--and the perks are great. Perks include: classes (spin classes daily in the evening) and usually another form of aerboics, yoga, or body improvement; also some morning classes.

The showers are clean (cleaned every 1/2 hour), include shampoo soap and conditioner, there are plenty of delightful smelling towels, bags for wet or smelly clothing, bathrooms, private changing areas, lockers for rent and daily use (which is free) and no one walks around naked-->which is a good thing in my book!

The machines have TVs attached to *almost* all of them, and even at "peak" time (aka 5:30 I can always find a treadmill and a stairmaster). The weight area has a lot of people into lifting, but there are people of all types/sizes and fitness levels who attend this gym. Another perk includes being able to use any other WSC gym during "non-peak" hours including all day on Saturdays and Sundays--so I can use the one closer to where I live (Georgetown) instead of where I work/commute (K St).

I also think they are having a ridiculously low special for 3 personal training sessions at around $20 (total)! Let me know if you want a free pass!

*I in no way work or am affiliated with WSC. I just like my gym :)

Aww, yay! Happy birthday! I love my gym, but I don't think there are any in DC, so I won't bother recommending it.

Hope you had a wonderful birthday!! I just started back at the gym and I am absolutely loving it so far! I just had to get past that two week hump of working my ass off and not seeing results and now I'm shedding the L Bs. I keep a little notebook and track how many cals I burn and what I eat during the day, I know that if I put that much work in it I'll keep myself on track. Good Luck :)

Opps! Had to delete my last comment, misspelled.

Happy Belated Birthday! 30 is SOOOO much fun!

I just joined a gym in San Antonio, Gold's Gym. I've been a member of many gyms. I prefer the basic gyms, nothing fancy. I just want to go, do the job, and leave!

I have a gym in my apartment building, so I don't really know much about D.C. gyms, but my mother is a personal trainer (and obviously works with gyms). She says now is the absolute best time to join a gym because most of them have suspended initiation fees. Although she firmly believes that 99% of the time, you can talk them out of initiation fees anyway. "I can afford the monthly fee with no problem, but not that bulk sum at the beginning!" They just want bodies in there right now. Good luck!

How wonderful that your quilting group is mostly your age... lots in common that way... although you'll miss all the wisdom us old folks have ;)
